Get to Know Our President, John Neville

In 1994, I began my career at a small engineering firm in Rockford, IL, where everything from calculations to letters was manually drafted. I contributed to the design of two regional grocery stores, gaining valuable insights into air conditioning systems specific to such facilities. Moving to Air Dynamics, a design-build HVAC company in Wheeling, I embraced technology by designing 3D HVAC systems that interfaced directly with laser cutters—an environment where precision was crucial, as mistakes directly impacted costs.

My journey took me to a pipe-fitting company in Northbrook next, where my focus shifted to estimating and pricing for government projects, including a significant GSA project in Rockford.

Later, I met Brian Berg Jr. at Hinsdale High School and transitioned to working with Berg Consultants. Here, my projects mainly centered around school systems, including a unique opportunity to design a steam heating system.

After a short stint at Globetrotters Engineering, contributing to Chicago Public Schools, I joined Cordogan Clark and Associates. This phase of my career is noted for working on large-scale projects like the Aurora Police Station, where I learned about diverse systems, including gun ranges and holding cells. John Cordogan’s integrated approach to design profoundly influenced my understanding of building construction.

Starting in 2008, I helmed the MEP department at Larson Engineering in Naperville, IL. By 2011, facing the downscaling of our team, I ventured out to establish Neville Engineering Service. My entrepreneurial journey was supported by significant clients like Kevin Peterson and Steve Osborne, leading to projects such as designing production spaces for Sugar and Spice and revitalizing buildings for Life Storage into modern facilities. At Neville Engineering, my aim is to foster a collaborative environment where engineers, architects, and building owners unite to deliver exceptional, cost-effective designs.
